Holly Brandrick (b. 1998, Staffordshire) is a painter based in Gloucestershire. Her imagined scenes are grown from sketchbook drawings, created from a myriad of sources such as daily experience, overheard conversations, phrases from novels etc. In these, figures and plants sit, think, search and hold; quite often merging together to become indistinguishable- what starts as an arm becomes a branch, a shadow becomes a new figure. Her work walks through her human experience; stumbling upon themes of growth, protection, reflection and mourning, underpinned by the ever fluctuating states of contentment and anxiety. Winding organic forms signify growth as much as they signify loss of control.
